Results for America
The Opportunity
Results for America helps government leaders invest in solutions that deliver better results for their residents. It operates at the federal, state, and local levels across the United States (and growing) to support data-driven decision-making that accelerates economic mobility and improves lives.
In 2018, Results for America needed help designing a pitch deck for a potential funding partner. With real-world experience working at all levels of government, Buoy was a seamless fit, and our work together continued to grow.

The Solution
Buoy was brought on to help Results for America navigate a transformative phase of growth as the organization rapidly expanded, nimbly filling a multimedia design role on an as-needed basis.
To ensure cross-functional consistency on presentations, icons, and photography, we designed promotional and informational templates for cross-functional teams to us. Buoy has also designed and streamlined more than 100 slide decks for funding pitches, webinars, on-site presentations, and more.
Every year, Buoy creates the State Standard of Excellence and Federal Standard of Excellence microsites, which recognize and promote evidence-based decision-making among government agencies and across the US. We have also designed more than 30 reports for Results for America, which include hallmark guides for the organization’s biggest initiatives and developed corresponding digital advertising to drive traffic to these resources.
Most recently, we have served as design partner for the Local Infrastructure Hub, spearheading all digital and social efforts.
In 2022, in celebration of Result for America’s 10th anniversary, Buoy designed an interactive website and accompanying print report. We also created the event space’s window graphics and the deck for the full run-of-show.
Buoy continues to lead the organization’s design efforts across all teams at the federal, state, and local levels – the latter of which includes What Works Cities, the Bloomberg Philanthropies-supported local pillar.
The Impact
By providing a fresh and invaluable outside perspective, as well as lightening the workload on the organization, Buoy has helped Results for America’s growing team (from fewer than 15 people at the start of our engagement to more than 80 today) create a cohesive experience across a fully remote team. The work we’ve supported, such as designing pitch materials for funder meetings, has bolstered the development process and brought in more than $20 million to the organization.
"Buoy has been a terrific partner over the last six years as Results for America's design, website, and branding needs have grown significantly.
Gretchen and her talented team have worked on dozens of campaigns and projects for us, and they have become an extension of our own team. We keep coming back to Buoy because they always deliver excellent creative work — on time and on budget."
